Yeah Write
As a diehard Word user, the idea that there are other word processors in the world is a bit hard to swallow. I was pleasantly surprised, however, with the simplicity and utility of this new word processor. It takes up only a few megabytes of computer space, can be personalized and is....well, ridiculously simple to use!
Once installed, each person in your family can have a seperate 'drawer.' You can create drawers for different portions of your own life as well. These drawers can be password protected if you like. After you click on your drawer, you will find a series of tabs across the top of your screen representing different types of activities and entries. By clicking on a tab, you can select:
Each of these document types is already formatted, so that all you need to do is type. You can adjust the fonts, styles, and much more. The only formatting you can not do are some of the more fancy options of tables, columns, graphics, multiple fonts within a document, table of contents, headers and footers. This is therefore not a program for people who have more business type needs.
When you do the original installation you can select multiple dictionaries, including foreign language dictionaries and a very nice medical dictionary. E-mail, faxes, and even ftp file saving capabilities are integrated into each document, so completion is as simple as pushing a button. E-mail features will not work with AOL and other servers who do not have smtp server capabilities. It worked very smoothly with my ISP, however.
This program is not for everyone. I will not, for example, delete my copy of Word. I would like my children to be comfortable with real word processors. This program is very simple, and would be great for the computer-phobics in your family, or those who need something a bit more straight forward.
