Toy Story 2 Action Game
Copyright: KBkids.com 1999
Toy Story 2 fans will enjoy this new arcade game, featuring all of their favorite characters from the movie. While the game says 8 and older, it is most appropriate for children in the 8-12 range. Older teens may find the Buzz Light year motif a bit childish, and younger kids may find the controls too difficult. Children under 8, who are adept with console games however, will do just fine with this program.
Woody has been stolen by Al, a dishonest toy collector, and must be rescued by Buzz Lightyear. There are fifteen levels to be completed, taking Buzz all over town. The 3D graphics are fairly good, although some of the camera angles can be annoying. You can choose from passive mode, where the camera stays behind Buzz, or Active Mode where it moves around on it's own.
As Buzz travels, he will collect tokens, battle evil toys, gather battery power, and get help from his friends. Many of the Toy Story 2 friends are found throughout the game, ready to give Buzz extra tokens, and other helps. He must first help them out with their problems. For example, Bo Peep has lost her sheep again, and Sarge has lost his men.
There is little in the way of violence here, but Buzz does blow up quite a few toys along the way. Testers found it frustrating that you have to stop, switch to shooting mode, then target and shoot, and then exit shooting mode. In other words, it is impossible for Buzz to shoot on the run.
While not the fanciest arcade game in town, this is a decent game that your Toy Story 2 fans will enjoy. Many of the graphical problems that plagued earlier games like A Bugs Life have been fixed here. The 3D graphics are much better quality.
Bottom Line: A good choice for Toy Story 2 fans who like action games, and Nintendo-type game play.
