If you have never been to a Star Trek convention, you have no idea just how fanatical Trekkies can be about their trivia knowledge. To the average observer, spending hours honing your trivia knowledge may seem like a true waste of time. For the Trek fan, however, it is an obsession. The absolute trivial trivia that Star Trek fans have taken the time to memorize would confound you. Therefore, this Star Trek Game Show program is a must for any true Trekkie.

Star Trek: The Game Show is hosted by Q himself, John de Lancie. He and his assistant, Q, (a race of omnipotent annoyances who are all named Q,) both guide you on your trip through the cosmos. Their humorous banter gets a little old, but then again that is the Q personality. This game plays like a television game show, with four rounds. The trivia is difficult, but will definitely not stump those few total fanatics who have memorized how many screws are in the plaque on Captain Picards wall, or what dish Neelix served the crew on a given star date! Believe it or not, there are trivia freaks who get that carried away. These questions are difficult for the average Trekkie, but not so much so that the game is discouraging. Testers found many questions that they weren't sure of, but knew they would recognize the answer when they heard it.

This is also a multiplayer game. You can play solo, or invite two of your friends to challenge you on your Trek trivia knowledge. As you sign in, you will choose which one of eleven characters you will be. These range from Human, to Ferengi, Romulon, Klingon and Cardassian

In round one, The Alpha Quadrant, you will be given multiple choice questions dealing with the personnel of each ship. This also includes visitors and little known characters. Categories include medical, engineering, helm sciences, miscellany, first officers and security navigation. Points are awarded for each correct answer.

Round two takes you to the Beta Quadrant. Here the questions deal with aliens, anomalies and adversaries. In this game you are given one clue at a time. A picture is blurred at the right of your screen. With each clue revealed, the picture becomes more clear. Of course, the less clues you need to guess the right answer the more points you get. The problem here is that you must type in your answer. Star Trek spelling is truly scary!

Occasionally "Red Alert" questions will pop on the screen. These are assigned to a certain player and contain video clips with related trivia questions. These are worth many more points and are considered very difficult. Testers looked forward to these video clips and found them particularly fun.

In the Gamma Quadrant, the questions involve making correct choices for the ship. You are in essence 'at the helm' of a starship. These are multiple choice questions, with point value being assigned randomly.

Last, but not least, you will stop at the Delta Quadrant. Here, the computer will randomly select one of five mini-games. Because this program includes each of the television shows and the motion pictures, the game you are assigned may be very difficult. The games are as follows:

Dread, Thy Shirt is Red- a game involving the demise of the Red Shirt characters from the original television series.

Collective Corrective- This Star Trek: The Next Generation game involves uncovering mystery words or phrases. The more clues uncovered by you the more Borg implants will be removed.

Weird, Wide Wormhole- A true-false game revolving around the adventures and misadventures of the Deep Space Nine space station . Planetary Perceptions- This game includes trivia dealing with away missions from Voyager.

Projections- Here you must decide who spoke a given line in one of the many Star Trek motion pictures.

Bottom Line: A fun trivia game for the Star Trek fan. This would make be great in combination with the Star Trek Encyclopedia for those who just can't get enough of things Trek. Makes an especially fun multiplayer game.
