Voted #1 game of all time in PC Gamer's "Readers' Top 50" list, StarCraft is more than popular. Although the strategy element in this game is not as detailed as Age of Empires or Civilization II; StarCraft definitely excels in the graphics, sound, music, and gameplay categories. Beware parents, this game contains "Mature" content and is not suitable for younger children.
The story is simple enough. The Terran (human), Zerg, and Protoss races are competing for control of the galaxy. Each race has certain advantages and disadvantages that can, and will, be used against each other.
There are missions to be completed for each race. Maps, instructions, and story-lines are generated for each of the many missions. You are assigned missions such as:
Actual gameplay is for the most part, scenario based (certain tasks must be completed within a story-based framework).
As mentioned earlier, StarCraft is not a child's game. Battle scenes are bloody, but the cut-scene content can be flat out disgusting. For example, in the opening sequence you actually see a man's head getting blown to pieces. Gross! Moderate swearing is also constant throughout the entire game.
Chess brings back players due to its strategy element. StarCraft brings back players due to its ultra-addictive gameplay and refreshingly innovative atmosphere. A must-have for hardcore gamers!
Bottom Line: Breathtaking mood and addictive gameplay makes this one a winner for "Mature" gamers.
