Purple Moon: Secret Path to Your Dreams

Copyright: KBkids.com

This program came as quite a surprise. It is definitely not your typical Purple Moon/Rockett Adventure program. Rockett isn't even in this program, as a matter of fact. A few of her friends have gotten together to tell you about their dreams, and listen to your dreams. This program will especially appeal to girls in the pre-teen and early teen range.

Written Journal: Your children can each create their own dream journal that is password protected. They will visit five of Rockett's friends, who will share their dreams with you. The journal portion involves both writing, and artistic design. You can write down your dreams in a great, old-fashioned looking book. The dream dictionary points out some common dream symbols, and what they might mean. Note that some parents may not be thrilled with this portion, although there is nothing that would be deemed generally objectionable. A dream finder lets you create an index of your dreams. For each dream you can also create an animated picture.

Animated Journal: There are five general themes (fantasy, the elements, nature, the known and the unknown) each with it's own set of animated stamps. Stamps from each theme are interchangeable. There are five different backgrounds for each theme, and six musical clips to choose from. The options are not limitless, and other than one stamp choice, you cannot place people of any sort in the pictures. These pictures are meant to compliment the written dream rather than being the central activity. It may be hard to create a picture that exactly matches one of your dreams.

Children this age often deal with new fears, and therefore new dreams. Girls in this age range will enjoy divulging their secrets in a safe way. While many of them won't be able to remember all of their dreams, they will also enjoy 'day dreaming' in the journal. Let them know this is perfectly OK. It is also a great way to encourage writing skills and practice.

Bottom Line: A good way to encourage pre-teen girls to write and share their feelings and write. Will appeal to pre-teen girls who like 'secret journals.'
