Rockett's Camp Adventure
Copyright: KBkids.com
This is another great addition to the Rockett line. While these programs do tend to show the catty side of pre-teen girls, they will appeal to girls who are trying to work their way through these awkward social situations.
Rockett is attending her first away from home camp. She is a bit homesick, but enjoys being with her friends. Her dad has given her a pocket computer, which allows her to keep a diary (for your reading pleasure) as well as clues for the game, e-mail from her family and friends, and access to the Internet. You don't do too much with this computer yourself, but peeking into Rockett's feelings is interesting for girls this age.
As you can imagine, a camp full of pre-teen girls and boys presents some sticky social situations. Right from the beginning, there are conflicts. Occasionally the program stops, and your daughter is given two behavior alternatives. One usually involves making a situation worse, but venting true feelings, while the other involves trying to do the right thing.... which isn't always easy. The story changes depending on the decisions made. It is good for girls this age to see that making the right choice is not always easy, but is still right. Things don't always work out as Rockett intended either. They can see that intentions do count for something.
Throughout the camp are three activities that Rockett can participate in. You can access these separately from the main menu, and include a canoe race, creating a virtual friendship bracelet, finding your way through a mysterious cave, and creating dance music.
None of the activities were great in and of themselves. Testers in this age group much preferred dealing directly with the storyline. This is a nice addition to the Rockett line, taking Rockett and her friends out of the hallways, and into the world.
Bottom Line: Dull activities, but a great Rockett program that pre-teen girls will like. The storyline makes up for the activities here.
