Month-by-Month
Knowledge Adventure sent me a very interesting package this week. At first glance it looked so 'school oriented' that I doubted it would work in a homeschool setting. Upon closer examination, I found that not only would this be a tremendous boost to any
school classroom, but would be perfect for homeschoolers who want a few more ideas, and a loose structure to build upon! I also found the pricing surprisingly affordable. This package is appropriate for kids through fourth grade.
Month-by-Month is a companion program for Kid Works Deluxe. If you do not own this program, you will need to purchase it first. Kid Works Deluxe allows your kids to write stories, illustrate them and more. Month-by-Month allows you to utilize this program as a base for a full years worth of activities.
The large binder that comes with this program contains reproducible activities for your classroom, home or co-op. Each month contains a special day for each day of the month. Each month has a vocabulary list, and monthly activities that can be incorporated as you choose. Each day contains a full lesson plan including writing activities, cross curriculum planning, Internet activities and more.
For example, the third Monday of January is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. On this day your kids can sign in to Kid Works Deluxe and create an "I Have a Dream" diary booklet. There is also a Martin Luther King, Jr. Internet booklet that guides them through Internet explorations dealing with the subject. You will find discussion and extension activities. There is a good booklist included, as well as a list of appropriate Internet links.
On other days your kids may be dealing with Winnie-the-Pooh day, National Nutrition Month, Independence Day, Mother Goose Day or more. There is something here for every day of the year, including summer months.
The more I looked through this package, the more excited I became. This would be ideal for a homeschool co-op, classroom, or loose structure around which to base your homeschool. This would even work for after-school reinforcement, but not as easily. I
expected to see a very hefty price, but was surprised to find that it would only cost $150 to purchase both programs, and only $59.95 if you already own Kid Works Deluxe! That's not bad for the amount of material found here. This also allows you to install the program on two computers.
