This is a wonderful program for fans of Little Bear, or kids who are on the quiet, non-assuming side. It is perfect for those who do not need, or want, a lot of action, noise or excitement.
Three skill levels with auto or manual adjustment
- Thinking skills emphasized rather than academics
- Activities arise naturally out of the story instead of artificially
- Great music throughout-quiet and peaceful
While there are three levels, testers found the third level rather difficult. This is not the best program for kindergarteners who need serious remediation.
Pantry Game: Following directions. What kid doesn't need practice here?
Flower Sorting: Find the flowers that don't belong. Level one is quite easy, but level three involves three characteristics to sort through.
Shadow Play: Find the correct shadow on the cave wall based on clues given about the animal, or objects shown.
Tangram Dam: Little Bear must help the beavers fix their dam by placing various shaped logs and leaves in the right place.
Owl's Collection: A patterning activity where your child must complete the pattern of objects shown to create a wind chime.
Fishing Game: Find fish based on clues given by the Mermaid. Difficulty ranges from one characteristic to several, while remembering what you did last.
Constellation Dot-to-Dot: Connect the numbers to create star pictures. The pictures are not ones you can possibly guess, but the number work is great practice.
Sketch Pad: Draw nature pictures with Little Bear, including mixing colors.
A second CD includes printable activities, which can be done away from the computer as a family. This program encourages politeness, kindness, and family togetherness. The music is very peaceful, and will appeal highly to families who are tired of the frenetic pace of so many programs.
Bottom Line: A super program emphasizing thinking skills. Family togetherness emphasized. Very well done activities which are good for the average and slightly advanced kindergartener.
