Land Before Time Animated Preschool Adventure

Grainy graphics, sloppy sound, and lack of diverse activities land this one in the mediocre category. It will, however, appeal to those kids who just can't get enough of Littlefoot and friends. Activities concentrate on visual recognition skills, visual discrimination, and visual perception. You won't find the usual pre-math and beginning reading activities here.

Three skill levels are including for each of the six learning activities.

Puzzles- Complete puzzles with Petrie. Level one has your child place missing pieces into an already completed picture. By level three, they are constructing nine piece puzzles.

Treasure Hunt- Six items have been lost, and must be put back. Guide Spike through the jungle to find them. The interface here is odd, as your child must click on an arrow on screen which tells Spike which way to travel. Once he finds an item, it is saved on the side of the screen until he finds its 'home'.

Categorizing- Help Scera put creatures in their homes. On the screen your child will see an area for water creatures, flying creatures, insects, two-footed creatures and many-footed creatures. As the creatures (mostly prehistoric) appear on screen, your child must drag them to their proper 'home.'

Leaf Drop- Help Duckie drop leaves with different shapes, colors or numbers into the mouth of the correct dinosaur.

Patterning- Littlefoot must surf through a river of obstacles, collecting tree stars, which complete a pattern. In another area, Chomper must hop from shape to shape across the pond according to visual clues given.

This program should not be your first choice in preschool programs. You will do better with Dr. Seuss Preschool, Jump Start Preschool, or one of the many quality programs. This one is a good choice for a child who needs very basic skills and love Land Before Time.

Bottom Line: A mediocre preschool program, but one which Land Before Time fans, or children with need for visual skills practice will enjoy.
