KidSpeak is one of the best language programs currently available for children in elementary school. There are many programs for older children, and adults, but very few for the smallest members of your family. These young children are also the ones who will learn a language the easiest!

KidSpeak is a 3 CD set containing individual tutorials for ten languages, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, Hebrew, Chinese and Portuguese. You will not find a more comprehensive list of languages! In each of these sections, your child will be guided by a native speaking friend. There are five learning areas for each language, containing over forty activities and more than 700 words and phrases per language. Each activity has three variable skill levels. This is a complete immersion program. Your child will hear full sentences, and will only hear the new language. An English dictionary with pictures is available, but this is only a last resort. Your child will learn phrases and words very naturally.

The five learning areas remain the same from language to language. The graphics and animations change, based on the target culture, but the games are basically the same for each language. Most programs for young children teach only word picture associations. This program goes much further. They will learn important phrases and skills such as telling time, reading a calendar, geography, spelling, reading and math skills. While your child does not need to be a good reader to use this program, they will be learning to read and spell foreign words, as well as deal with plurals. This is all done smoothly and without much hoopla. It won't be a painful process for most children. While testing this program, two kindergarten children were heard repeating phrases in the background. The catch? They weren't even listening to the program or paying any attention to it!

KidSpeak includes the following skill development areas:

Alphabet- Not a traditional language skill. Here they will learn the ABC's, spelling, word/picture association and more.

Numbers- Here they can play a domino game, learn their numbers, do basic math with manipulatives, play Bingo, or do a dot-to-dot.

Animals- Memory games, matching activities and songs teach children animal names, body parts and sounds. Human body parts are taught here as well.

Backpack- A miscellaneous lesson area containing activities to teach food, colors, sports, geography and clothing words.

Songs- Each of the lesson areas contain one song. The songs are all together here, for children who just want to listen to the songs. Each of the songs teaches a different concept such as letters, numbers, animal sounds etc.

Birthday- This area contains holiday fun, calendar skills, including days of the week and months, as well as time telling activities.

This is a very solid language program. Each of the activities is thorough and well thought out. Your children will be repeating phrases, and instinctively understanding a new language rather quickly. The fact that there are so many languages on this CD (they are also sold separately) makes this a bargain for families who don't know what language they want to study yet. You may also have children who are interested in different languages. This program will give them a basic grasp of each of the included languages.

Bottom Line: One of the best language programs for elementary aged children. Great selection of languages not found elsewhere.
