Force Commander

The release of Force Commander has been highly anticipated for several years. This new 3D real-time strategy game was suppose to be 'state of the art.' Unfortunately, we should have waited a bit longer.
Note: Real-Time Strategy games are those where movements and action happens in 'real time.' In this case the program deals with ground battles, unlike the other flight based Star Wars programs. You will be defending Hoth, and other familiar territories. Play on the side of the Empire or the Rebel Alliance.
Star Wars fans who are expecting cutting edge graphics and gameplay will be sorely disappointed. If you are looking for a real-time strategy game, Homeworld's graphics can run circles around Force Commander. Star Wars fans will be better of sticking with Rogue Squadron, Episode 1 Racer, or The Phantom Menace for the Star Wars atmosphere.
In its favor:
A very nice tutorial that does not leave you floundering Adaptive camera angles that let you view the action any way you like 24 single-player and many multiplayer campaigns that will keep you busy Control all of your favorite ground troops including Storm Troopers, Snow Speeders and more
Things to be aware of:
This one is a system hog! The minimum requirements are inadequate The graphics are very grainy, boxy and choppy At times frustrating AI (artificial intelligence) leaves your troops vulnerable Hard to see your troops in many cases due to poor graphics An overall disappointing experience for true strategy game diehards.
As this is the only Star Wars real-time strategy game on the market, diehard fans will still want to try it. As a strategy game it isn't all that bad. The controls are a bit clumsy, and the graphics take away from the experience in a big way. However, it is still fun to defend the Rebel Alliance, and attempt to conquer the Empire. At one point in the game you will have to make a tough decision. This one may try your moral fortitude!
Bottom Line: Poor graphics make this much anticipated program a disappointment. Star Wars fans will still want to give it a whirl, however....just don't expect the perfection you were waiting for!
