Football Pro '99 is the much-anticipated major upgrade to the popular Front Page Sports series. While there have been reports of bugs, testers had no specific problems. The grumblings on the Internet are too loud to ignore, however. A patch will be available later in January. This program has great potential, and could become the forerunner in the market if Sierra gets all of the quirks worked out.

Football '99 has been rebuilt from the ground up. The graphics are vastly superior to the original Front Page Sports programs, as well as the many new options. Sierra's goal was to keep the simulation strength of the program, and increase the arcade aspect. There have been murmurings on the Internet that this program was released too quickly. Reports of Voodoo 2 problems (which testers here did not experience) are to be found on message boards, as well as complaints that receivers freeze in mid-action. The manual is also a bit skimpy for the depth of this program, and online help is limited.

• Trade with other teams, and try to pick up free agents
• Create your own teams and league play with the new editing features
• Edit plays and make the calls yourself
• See how far in the playoffs you can go this year
• Listen to play-by-play announcements by Howard Davis

This program is heavy on the simulation. You are involved in all aspects of the game. The addition of better arcade action makes this a powerhouse program. If Sierra can quickly take care of the complaints dealing with bugs, this has great potential.
