Millennium: 20th Century Day by Day

By now you may have had enough of all this Millenium stuff. Most people I talk to have. However, this is a very nice time for companies making reference programs to do 'recaps,' and special editions. The end of a century makes a nice 'finishing point' for a historical work. As a result, 20th Century Day by Day does have some value. With its Internet update feature, it will also last into the next century.

While not a complete history program, Day by Day does a good job of hitting the highlights of the past century. Once you enter the 'office,' there are several ways to browse the information included:

Biographies: Short biographical clips of famous people are alphabetized. The selection may not be thorough, but contains a good representation of people your children should be familiar with. I felt there were an inordinate number of media figures, however. The program contains 110 biographies.

Timeline: The timeline function is very easy to use. You can browse by decade, and then narrow your field to years and months. While there is not an entry for every day, you should be able to at least find out what was happening the week you were born.

20th Century in Focus: Here the information is divided into important knowledge topics. For example, because WWI was such an important part of this century, all of the information pertaining the this war can be viewed in one area.

More information can be accessed through the link to the DK Millenium web site at the bottom of your toolbar.

There are 90 archival videos and 70 video clips covering all sorts of subjects. I love to look for clips of Kennedy, or Martin Luther King when I get a new encyclopedia program. This program puts all of them in one place for you.
