Civilization Call To Power

Civilization II has been hailed as the best turn-based strategy game of all-time. However, the mind behind the game, Sid Meier, moved on to pursue other gaming ideas, and the rights to the Civilization name were turned over to Activision. Although not enough changes have been included to call this a major upgrade, this is the one to purchase if you have never owned a Civilization program.
The Civilization programs allow you to create your own world from the bottom up, or jump right into important historical events, and control them yourself. Your civilization will progress, and become more advanced if you do a good job. Unlike StarCraft or Age of Empires, there is more emphasis on diplomacy and trade, as opposed to the "destroy everyone" objective common to real-time games. The world is constructed on a huge grid. Each 'unit' can move a certain distance on the grid per turn. Examples of 'units' include, musketeers, settlers, cavalry, diplomats etc. It has been referred to as "chess on steroids".
Call to Power is a game that takes awhile to complete... a solid 2-3 weeks for those who have any kind of life away from the computer! And that is just for one game! This is a program for those who enjoy prolonged game-play. If you enjoy strategy games, this program has literally endless re-play value.
Call to Power is a bit more than an expanded version of Civilization II, but not much.New features have been included, but Civilization fans should not expect this to be a major upgrade.
The scope of this game will keep you going for a long time. Gamers fond of Civilization II may be disappointed in the lack of innovation; but for everybody else, Call to Power is a great introduction to this legendary series.
Bottom Line: A great update to the Civilization series, but lacks the innovation to make it a classic. Endless re-play value.
