Babe Preschool Adventure
Copyright: KBkids.com
Although this new Babe adventure has no connection with the latest video release, it does feature that adorable pig, Babe. This program is cute, but not meaty enough to please most families, and too easy for most five year olds. A better choice would be Dr. Seuss Preschool.
Babe and his friends would like to put on a benefit circus. In order to do this they must sell tickets. The sell tickets by helping neighbors. If Babe and your child sell tickets to three people, the circus can begin. There are six activity areas. Completing any one of these areas will qualify as one 'sale.' The activities are cute, but just too shallow. They are far too easy for most five year olds, and some four year olds. Use this one for your youngest preschoolers only. The six areas each teach a different academic skill.
Graffiti Clean Up- While this 'paint over the graffiti' project would make any historic restoration specialist cringe, it is a common activity these days. This actually caused one testers husband to rant and rave like a lunatic. Your preschoolers must help color in pictures to paint over graffiti on a wall. Your preschooler will be matching colors (odd shades), numbers, or letters to fill in the pictures.
Community Garden- Here your preschoolers will help count plants for the community garden. If your child chooses the wrong answer, the program merely beeps at him, and there is no teaching or re-teaching available.
City Orchestra Rehearsal- By counting notes in musical phrases, your child will help produce an actual piece of classical music. Each musician plays a set of notes. Your child must match the number of notes played with a numeral at the top of the screen. Once all phrases have been finished, the piece is played.
Boardwalk Clean Up- This is an arcade type game. Your preschooler must guide Babe around the Boardwalk picking up pieces of trash. If he bumps into anyone, he must start over. Each level becomes increasingly difficult. The dexterity needed here may be beyond the level of those interested in the program. Higher levels are beyond the reach of most three year olds due to the clumsy interface.
Plant Trees- Help the forest service plant more trees. Your child must match the baby tree with it's 'mother.' Once all of the trees have been planted, it is time to pick fruit. Here your child will sort fruit into baskets while listening to a voice count along with him.
Flealand's Hotel- This sloppy hotel manager needs help cleaning up. Items are scattered throughout each room. They must be dragged to their corresponding 'shadow.' This puzzle activity is too easy for five year olds.
At the end, your child can attend the circus. Babe and his friends can be made to jump on a trampoline, ride a unicycle, juggle balls, or blow a row of horns. There just is not enough quality learning here. There are better choices for preschoolers, such as Dr. Seuss Preschool and Fisher Price Learning in Toyland.
Bottom Line: Shallow program which is too easy for older preschoolers. Not enough meat here to qualify as a good preschool package.
