Timmy's Sea Adventure
Timmy's Sea Adventure is a cross between the older EcoQuest, and the ever-popular Freddi Fish programs from Humongous. This program is heads and tales over EcoQuest, but does not really do much to improve on the Freddi Fish programs. Technically speaking, there are more 'learning activities' here, but the graphics, and overall feel of the game does not keep pace with Freddi and Luther.
Timmy is a young kindergarten boy who finds himself swimming around the bottom of the sea, without scuba gear my kids noticed. A large walrus is plugging up a hole in the bottom of the ocean. Timmy must find the plug so that the ocean won't all drain out. Finding and retrieving the plug may not be that easy, however. Along the way, Timmy will have to find and collect items which will be needed elsewhere in the program. This portion of the game play is very much like Freddi Fish. Finding a package,
for example, allows Timmy to enter a building later. In order to collect one item, such as a sample of jam, Timmy must find something else first (in this case an empty jar.) One difference is the fact that strewn throughout the program are educational games and puzzles. Some of these are number games, or board games similar to Archimedes where you must use your skills of logic to win the game.
A special code language called Compedatalk by the company will be fun for kids who enjoy code breaking.
This program will help children with problem solving skills and language skills. In encourages creative thinking and reasoning skills.
My kids have finished all of the current Freddi Fish titles. In the meantime, they really enjoy this type of problem solving game. Will your kids like it more than Freddi Fish? Probably not. If you are looking for another problem solving activity which is similar, however, this one would be a great choice.
